What Happens To Your Body When You're Stressed

2. TOO MUCH PHYISICAL ACTIVITY OR MORE THAN USUAL.

Life is full of stressful situations. Whether you’ve stepped in front of a speeding bicycle or are bombing a job interview, here’s the chain reaction that’s triggered.

1. Alarm Signal
When you hear, see, or otherwise perceive a threat, nerve signals whisk the message to your brain.

2. Brain Trigger the signal race the amygdala--a brain region that helps with decision-making and the regulation of emotions The amygdala in turn alerts the hypothalamus, which controls hormone production

3. Hormone Cascade
The fast-acting part of the nervous system releases adrenaline Meanwhile, the hypothalamus produces corticotrophin-releasing hormone, initiating a sequence that finishes with the production of the stress hormone cortisol.

4. Messengers
Cortisol, epinephrine (aka adrenaline), and other chemicals enter the bloodstream and travel through the body

5.Nearly all cell in all organs and tissues are studded with proteins called glucocorticoid receptors. Cortisol fits into them like a key to a lock.

6.Response
Cortisol boosts blood sugar. Epinephrine makes the heart pound, increasing the oxygen flowing into major muscles. You're primed for fight or flight.

Signs of Strain

Heart Rate
Your heart races in tense situations, which many be one of the reasons Tulane University researchers found heart attacks were three times as common in New Orleans post-Katina.

Blood Pressure
Notice that your forehead vein throbs when you're about to blow up/stress boosts the force against the artery walls as the heart pumps blood.

Hormones
Change in cortisol and other hormones register in your saliva, indicating not only stress, but according to a recent study, possibly also how well you respond to it.

Inflammatory Markers
Thing about stressors can actually increase inflammation and level of inflammatory markers, such as c-reactive protein, circulating in the bloodstream.  Allostatic Load a fancy word for the toll taken by all of your chronic stresses, as measured by the cumulative wear and tear on the cardiovascular system and other organs.

There Are Different Kinds Of Stress
Acute Stress (Short-Term)
Immediate threats trigger a flight or fight response In addition to flooding the bloodstream with hormones, the body releases small proteins call cytokines, which help regulate the immune response. Until Firdaus Dhabhar, a neuroimmunoligist at Stanford University, started studying their effects in the 1990s, scientists didn't understand that acute stress can actually enhance the immune system improving your health.

Chronic Stress (Long-Term Stress)

Everyday annoyances like heavy traffic or an overwhelming inbox—or sustained crises, such as unemployment or caring for a sick relative—can cause the body to activate the stress response constantly. The body and brain can’t reset hormones and inflammatory chemicals to normal levels, damaging the immune system and making you more likely to get sick.

Help...My Back Went Out....Again!!??

5 TOP REASONS MY BACK GOES OUT!!!

1. NOT ENOUGH FOOD IN YOUR BELLY TO COVER THE ACTIVITY.

What does that mean to a regular person? Your intake of food will determine what you body is able to do. Safely. As you age, absorption of food, nutritional needs for food etc. all change.

Facts About Disc Dehydration

Although it might not be as common of a phrase as disc bulge or slipped disc, disk dehydration is a very real condition that many people suffer from. It can also lead to other more serious conditions, as well as cause pain for the individual. So what is disc dehydration and what causes it?
At birth, the disc is made up of about 80% water. This lets the disc act as a shock absorber and also makes it spongy. Our bodies need the shock absorption because if we didn’t have it then when we moved around and our discs moved with us, they would rub up against one another.
Disc Bulge and Disc Degeneration

As we get older, however, the water in the discs gradually decreases, making them less effective at their shock-absorbing capabilities. When a disc is dehydrated, it contains only a small amount of water. Sometimes, this condition is also referred to as “dark disc disease” due to the fact that a disc that is not properly hydrated will show up as bring dark in color on a MRI scan of the spine.
Tiny molecules called proteoglycan aggrecans keep the water within the discs. They are actually able to hold over 500 times their weight in water which helps give the healthy disc the pressure that it needs to bear body weight. The disc cells produce the proteoglycan aggrecan molecules as long as the discs have oxygen, food, and amino acids for building materials.

What?!...I have a bulging disc in my back?! What is that?

What?!...I have a bulging disc in my back?!
Chiropractic can treat a bulging disc!
What is that? Disc Bulge...

Disc Herniation

Spinal disc herniation, also known as a slipped disc, is a medical condition affecting the spine in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge out beyond the damaged outer rings. Disc herniation is usually due to age-related degeneration of the outer ring, known as the anulus fibrosus, although trauma, lifting injuries, or straining have been implicated as well. Tears are almost always postero-lateral (on the back of the sides) owing to the presence of the posterior longitudinal ligament in the spinal canal. This tear in the disc ring may result in the release of chemicals causing inflammation, which may directly cause severe pain even in the absence of nerve root compression

Diagnosis is made by a practitioner based on the history, symptoms, and physical examination. At some point in the evaluation, tests may be performed to confirm or rule out other causes of symptoms such as spondylolisthesis, degeneration, tumors, metastases and space-occupying lesions, as well as to evaluate the efficacy of potential treatment options.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_disc_herniation

My Back Went Out!!! Again! Why?!

My Back Went Out...Again! Why?!

Lumbar Antalgia...
Antalgic Lean  https://www.cure-back-pain.org/antalgia.html
This particular diagnostic term, also called an antalgic list, is very common in lower back pain conditions, but is also occasionally seen in middle back pain, upper back pain or even neck pain conditions. A list simply means that the patient is leaning or bending to one side without consciously enacting the movement.

Lumbar Antalgic Lean
These lists are caused due to painful stimuli in the affected area and muscular response, including extreme tightening and spasming in a protective capacity. The patient may be bent forward or to either side, creating a disturbing appearance and often scaring them half to death. Ironically, most list conditions resolve without treatment once the back muscle spasm ends and typically, the patient will suffer no lasting physical effects.

The psychological effect of this type of back pain is a completely different story altogether and most patients live in continuing fear of a recurrence.

What causes this problem....a Herniated or Bulging Disc is the problem...and hopefully for you it is an 'old' disc injury. I say that because in my experience, if it is 'old', the recovery time is much less.

You body leans to take pressure off of the irritated disc...
